Richard Tarr

Richard H. Tarr, MBA, CISA, CIA is an internal and information systems (IT) audit consultant who specializes in the development and training of internal auditors and in conducting peer reviews (Quality Assurance Reviews) of internal audit departments to comply with the requirements under the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing. He has 35 years of internal audit and IT audit experience in the development, training, and evaluation of internal audit departments in both the public and private sectors.

For the 25 years, Richard had been an instructor for MIS Training Institute where he has presented a wide range of seminar subjects on the practice of internal auditing and IT auditing. In addition to his work with MIS, he has developed and conducted numerous training seminars for government, higher education and industry.

Having conducted more than 150 quality assurance consulting engagements over the past 20 years he has an extensive understanding of the internal audit profession and how the audit process can be improved across organizations of all sizes in various sectors. His experience has provided him with a broad knowledge base about what constitutes best-in-class practices regarding all kinds of internal auditing activities.

Before joining the IIA, Mr. Tarr spent almost 10 years with the Walt Disney Company, where he established and developed the information systems audit function at Walt Disney World, and later served as the Corporate Information Systems Audit Manager for the Walt Disney Company.

He earned his BS in Accounting and Management as well as an MBA in Management at Florida State University. He is also a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
